βI am voluntarily committed to the continued leadership of my youth club in its mission to promote gender equality and prevent gender-based violence in the community. Specifically, I will work with team members to develop the 2026 activity plan, with support from local facilitators.β, Ms. Samnang Sopheap, a youth club leader from Samlot district in Battambang province, expressed this during the project orientation for 'Promoting Gender Justice through Learning, Skill Sharing, and Practice'.
It should be noted that this project is currently being implemented in four communities/provincesβKep, Kampot, Battambang, and Oddar Meancheyβwith the support of the Heinrich BΓΆll Stiftung Cambodia.
Kampot Province (May 12, 2026): The project orientation for βPromoting Gender Justice through Learning, Skill Sharing, and Practiceβ continued its outreach with youth groups and community facilitators in Kampot Province. As a result, Ms. Uy Minea was elected as the leader to head the youth club within the community.
Ms. Uy Minea shared her thoughts: βAs I am newly elected, I hope to gain knowledge in leadership and gender mainstreaming, and to raise awareness about past violence. I intend to share this knowledge with other youth for the benefit of my community.β
It should be noted that this project is currently being implemented in four communities/provincesβKep, Kampot, Battambang, and Oddar Meancheyβwith the support of the Heinrich BΓΆll Stiftung Cambodia.
As a survivor and a member of the Steering Committee, I embraced the IRM project as a turning point in my life. Through regular engagement with case managers, and local facilitators, I discovered a newfound confidence in expressing my opinions and contributing to decisions that shape my community.
As a survivor and a member of the Steering Committee, I embraced the IRM project as a turning point in my life. Through regular engagement with case managers, and local facilitators, I discovered a newfound confidence in expressing my opinions and contributing to decisions that shape my community.
My role also opened doors to experiences I had never imagined. Together with CMs and LFs, I visited survivors in areas of my commune I had never been to before. These visits not only expanded my perspective but also deepened my empathy and commitment to supporting others.
As mentioned above, the journey of Ms. Teu Ry reflects the essence of the IRM project, transforming recognition into resilience, and survivors into leaders who inspire change and unity across their communities.

Over 10 years, Mr. Minea Tim has worked tirelessly and dedicatedly to address the past, specifically the Khmer Rouge regime. He has traveled to different areas throughout the country to create safe spaces for survivors and young generations to discuss the crimes committed during the war. This work aimed to facilitate healing, learning, and, especially, preventing future crimes. At the same time, he has engaged with regional and international networks to collaborate in the fight against human rights violations and genocide as global issues.
In recognition of his work, he was selected as the Champion of Prevention, Raphael Lemkin Champion by the UN Office on Genocide Prevention in New York for the year 2023. Recently, Ms. Alice Wairimu Nderitu, Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the UN, travelled to Cambodia and spent her time to congratulate to the champion in person as well as to gain a better understanding of KdKβs work.
On behalf of Kdei Karuna Organization, we congratulate him on this achievement and extend our congratulations to all our friends, partners, and donors.

Community Dialogue and Healing: Bangskol (Buddhist Ceremony that villagers could offer foods and other accessories to monks in order to pray for their family members who died. It could sense that those dead people could be happy if they realized that their family members keep living in good life and doing merit) and Watering Ceremony (it is organized to show respect and gratitude of children to parents/elders by watering their parents with water and flowers. It is also believed to clean the painful experience, bad mood, unhappy feeling) to the participating survivors for traditional and religious healing.

Kampot (May 30, 2024): 47 students from Technical and General Knowledge High School of Preah Norodom Sihamuni and 6 survivors participated in dialogue and traditional and religious healing. This event is presided over by Mr. Muong Noeurn, District Chief of Angkorchey, Kampot province, relevant district officers, monks and Mr. Nhim Nhorn, Commune Chief of Marom. Key activities in this event included dialogue, reading oral history collection, Bangskol (Buddhist ceremony) and watering to the participating survivors for traditional and religious healing. Some participants then provided individual impressions as following:
β’ βI am very satisfied with this project since it collected oral histories from KR survivors (witnesses) for young generation to learn about history and also contribute to violent prevention. I would suggest KdK to continue running such educational activities annually with students and reach to other high schools in this districtβ, said Mr. Muong Nouern.
β’ βI am glad today since my grandchild documented my story and read it loudly to other youths and monks. I feel better nowβ, Ms. Yin Sareth, 60 years old.
β’ βAfter reading my story, watering by youths, participating in Bangkol ceremony, I feel so happyβ, Ms. Vann Meu, 72 years old.
This activity is possible due to the support from local authorities, school teachers and local facilitators with active participation from KR survivors and youths. In addition, this project is funded by United States Institute of Peace.

After a mango is eaten, its seed is thrown away.
Lying on the ground for days and months,
under rays of sunlight,
a new color covers the seed.
Rainfall offers the seed a new destiny.
Again growing, blossoming,
producing fruit,
like all other mango trees.
Just like the mango seed,
you develop strong roots,
you regain strength and power,
from the soil, sun, and rain.
Throughout days and months,
you grow leaves and bear fruit.
